No matter what your dog training goals are, all dogs need the basics— such as potty training, basic commands, and leash training. Then, there are all the additional directions for your pup such as sit, stay, come, lay, down, and more. There are many ways to teach your pup these tricks, and many tools to help you do so more easily. Enter smart devices and pet technology, whose options are endless!
The use of pet technology can streamline daily routines and ensure that Man’s Best Friend stays whip smart, learning new skills and staying sharp on old tricks. As the market continues to grow, it can be overwhelming to choose the right options for your life, home, and pet, but we think the following are great suggestions and can work for many household and pet training goals.
Puppy Potty Training Tech

We know that potty training is always high on any pet parent’s list. While crate training works wonderfully, sometimes we’re unable to break away from our busy schedules to ensure that Fido is let outside every few hours. Enter the upgrade of new microchip pet doors, which allow your pup to enter and exit their designated space freely—while keeping unwanted critters out! These allow your pet to go outside into the yard to go potty when they’re ready, and re-enter the house when they approach the doggie door. Their fancy microchip (on their collar) will signal the door to open.
Pet Training Apps

Training apps, such as GoodPup, make it easy to work with professional trainers on basic commands and more from the convenience of your phone or tablet. Many of these apps are extremely personalized for your pet and their needs, and allow you to track you pet’s progress through training goals. These kinds of pet apps also provide resourceswith breed-specific health and nutrition information, to help you become the most educated pet parent ever.

E-COllars and Pet training Technology

Sometimes new environments–like dog parks–mean extra distractions. Even for the best-trained, and calmest leash-walkers out there. When this happens, it can seem like your pooch has suddenly forgotten everything he or she has learned and doesn’t even hear your commands. If that sounds all too familiar, consider adding an e-collar to your leash training routine. E-collars can be helpful for both maintaining on- and off-leash skills and behavior. This will make social hour much more enjoyable for everyone. E-collars help reinforce commands and behaviors your pet already knows, especially when your pet is away from you–like at a dog park. They should be used minimally and only for commands your pet already knows. Most pet training and commands should be reinforced by you, but E-collars can help, as needed.
