Senior Cat Kidneys & Litterbox Use
When you adopt an older cat, we assume they’ve been litterbox trained at some point in their life. If your cat needs some litterbox training, however, please refer to our Kitten Care Guide-Part 1 for more guidance. Senior cats may take some time to get it right, especially if they were outdoor cats or used a different style of the litterbox. Be patient and understanding, and your cat will learn to use the new litterbox in no time. It’s also important to keep it as clean as possible, as many cats will find other places to go potty instead of a dirty litterbox.

If you notice that your beloved cat is having issues using the litterbox, such as peeing just outside of it or increased drinking of water and peeing, these could be signs of kidney disease in your senior cat. You may also notice a change in appetite, weight loss, diharrea, and even hair loss if they have kidney issues.
